Diagnosing Bad Injectors

I need help finding a bad injector. No telling what the Ford dealership will charge me to do a circuit test. My buddy suggested starting the truck and walking around with a temperature gun, shooting the exhaust manifold, and whatever cylinder comes out the coldest would be the bad injector. Any ideas? I would really hate to take my truck apart, replace an injector, and find that I didn't replace the correct one.

A contribution test is the best way I have heard of people using the thermo test but also doing the contribution test to back it up good luck if you have a bad injector it will run like S#!t

Right now it runs like skat when it's cold and intermittently on the highway. The good news is, its only a weekend/muddy day driver(thanks to the company ride). Bad news is, I replaced all eight injectors two years ago.

Oh and the other side of the contribution test is the fact that I would have to purchase an AE scan tool. Know anywhere I can get one for "cheap"? I say "cheap" because I know I will spend a good chunk of my tax return on it.

AE with the Ford module (YOU'LL NEED THE EXTRA STUFF) one of the best investments you can make. See the post below where I helped a user get his working and how AE helped him.

WOW! After watching videos and reading about the tool, all I can say is, WOW! I will be getting one of these bad boys soon. Very soon indeed. If only for the pleasure of having a new toy. On a side note, reading the thread you suggested makes me think that the $1400 I spent at a dealership in Tennessee on a new PCM was a waste... OUCH!!!! To bad I was on the road and desperate to get back to the great state of Texas.
