Injector Question
I would first like to thank everybody for helping me with my other post, it was very helpful! I have a 2000 f250 and since I bought it has had a knock or tapping sound coming from passenger side engine bank. A couple weeks ago I thought I would pull the vc and see what was going on. Turned the truck on while off and the # 7 injector wasnt pumping oil out so I replaced that one thinking that was the source of the knock. Well it didn't fix the knock but it definitely ran better haha. I was worried about the seal of the injector bc the old injector tip was black but it works. Anywho the truck still knocks but I pulled the vc today and the # 5 injector is the knocking one bc I unplugged it while running and the knock went away. Is it possible for it to work properly and make that pinging knocking noise? Also do I need to pull the #7 to clean up all the oil/fuel that will drain into it or can I just pull out #5 and reassemble ? Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance!

knocking on hell's door
The first answer is yes they knock & still work actually I have seen 3 of 8 from IH knock & never go away,It seems to be hit & miuss with reman stuff Second answer is strait forward if you remove the two oil plugs & fuel pl,ug @ rear of head most of your fluids SHOULD be minmal,BUT AS ALWAYS USE CAuTION
If you dindnt use cation & tried to force it to crank oveer with either a bar or starter wit even a small amount of fluid in cyl you could have a bent push rod causing your tick/knock ,But seems to be the Inj When I worked at IH my supervisor with over 40 yrs exp never did this until he broke a rod in a R&R inj job I had I had done, while finishin the job up for me on my day off. A motor job I came back too & a NEW shop policy |

Thanks for the reply! When I did the #7 I made sure to get as much of the fluid out of the chamber as possible. I just didn't know if I had to pull the gp from #7 as well as #5 when I suck out that fluid this next time. Will the fluid fill that cylinder or just the #5? I was able to do it without removing the fuel plug too. Some places say you have to do it, some dont. Thank you for the help, its really appreciated. This truck hasnt run right since I bought it and I finally feel as though im getting close to having it 100%. Thanks again!
