The best way to start

Basically, the truck has had a major oil leak for over a year and hasnt run for more than 5 seconds in the past 7 months, Going to give it a shot to get it running tomorrow with the oil leak to get it on a trailer to go get fixed. Basically what i am asking is, once the truck is fixed, what is the best way to get it back in the swing of things? Do i just start running it like we did or ease it back into work potential?
