7.3 knocks

brand new to psd's but been around diesel most of my life. just aquired two psd's and am really impressed. problem i have is a knock. not a low hard knock, just a constant hard tap or light knock. seems more pronounced on drivers side head toward rear. knock goes right with rpm but does not gain in volume. doesn't seem to knock until warm. can't feel it with bare hand on valve covers. doesn't try to run you out of the cab while driving. can't hear it under acceleration and can't hear it when i lift throttle, until engine comes back down to near idle. truck runs great. throttle response is good and starts right off all the time even cold. does white smoke when cold if not plugged in. talking low twenties temp. truck is a 2001 automatic dually. no mods that i know of has 162000 miles, and has had this knock since i bought it 670 miles ago. oil looks good and service records show it was well taken care of. also picked up an 02 at the same time that has 374000 miles now and runs like a top. thanks in advance. i will try to upload a sound bite or video tomorrow.

thanks jesilvas. from what i have gathered on this site, i need to pull the valve cover and see if number 8 has an LL on top. i have listened with a probe and the sound seems to be most defined, although not loud, at the head bolt just above the number 8 exhaust manifold port. was listening around to excuse flex plate and such. trans didn't carry the knock well, neither did the oil pan or block near oil filter. thank you for your help in this matter, i do appreciate it. really want to rule out serious mechanical issues. i.e. rod or main bearings or wrist pin. or piston skirt for that matter. have driven this truck a little hard at times and it made a non stop run for over 7hrs recently. really runs great.

don't think it'll say ll, have an injector code such as AD or Asomething.

I made my Samsung SGH-I997 send this.
