fuel heating element install

Went to put my fuel heating element in the other day. Messed with it for a while. Couldn't seem to get that little wire connector under the open space inside the canister and then to the connection. I had to stop for the day due to prior engagements. Am I gonna have to remove the canister to get that little connection made? Not a big deal if I have to. Just wondering if any one has any tips that has done this. Thanks so much

I just replaced my fuel heater element, I plugged in the connector before I installed the element. Used a pair of needle nosed pliers to slide the connector onto the lug, then install the element.
