I'm stumped...would love some input
First off I'm not the most knowledgable person on these trucks and I know most of you are. So any input would be greatly appreciated, as this issue has been driving me crazy/getting worse over the last couple years I've owned this truck.
I've got a 2003 7.3 with 207,000 miles. I've owned it about two years, and a-I'd say about three or four months after I bought it, it would fire up, RPM's would start to go down, and it would shut off. Wouldn't fire back up. Thanks to all of the knowledge on this web site, I narrowed it down to the HPOP reservoir being low on oil. I'd fill it up and be on my merry way.
What's got me stumped is the fact that the truck will stay running for a short period of time. Now i've noticed on the days when it dies the dummy oil gauge won't move. For a long time I thought maybe the oil was draining out some how (from a checkball maybe?) but I don't think thats my issue since the truck will fire up every time which tells me there is oil in the reservoir tank, or at least in the lines going to the injectors. I've also thought maybe my low pressure oil pump was going out, but in the event the tank does empty and I fill it up again, after it starts up (and it sounds like the whole motor is going to fly out of the hood lol) and the idle gets steady it just purrs like a kitten as if there was never an issue in the first place.
I'm curious if maybe any of you have had or know someone who has had this problem.
And also, is there a checkball inside the reservoir I can check?
Thanks in advance for any info
