My dad has a 97 f350 7.3 and we have put 3 alternators on it in the last two years. I cant figure out what the deal is.

What kind of alternators are you putting on it? Are they new or rebuilt? Where are you buying them from?
How old are the batteries? Have they been tested recently? |

I know this is a late response but it may help someone.
Had this issue on a company truck years ago. After many alternators and a wiring harness we discovered the glow plug relay was sticking. After correcting the issue and driving a few more miles a glow plug came apart and went through a cylinder. I recommend replacing the relay and plugs. That is what fixed that one. Well a long block fixed the plug issue so i recommend doing them before they come apart if this in fact your issue. Last edited by F350none; 02-06-2013 at 04:15 PM. |

The alternator harness goes bad and it will eat alternators. There is a replacement harness available. Seen 2 trucks with this problem, new harness fixed both.
