Front end squeal on startup
Hey all! I'm having a problem that just started occurring about a month ago. When I start up my truck, I can here a decently loud squeal coming from the front end of my truck. After further investigation from the first time I noticed it, I pinpointed it to the pulley of the alternator.
The noise goes away after the engine warms up and I get down the road. Is this an indication of a bad bearing in the pulley? Any help would be great. Thanks! |

I dont know if its a bearing or a bushing. All the other pullies on the engine are bushings and they'll start failing. I've replaced several on one of my 99's, which has 300k on it. The other one only has 190k'ish on the engine, but I noticed a slight squeak the other day, and Im pretty sure its the tensioner.
If you're sure its in the alternator, then I'd probably just run it till it gives up then replace the whole thing. |

I just replaced my tensioner yesterday for the same reason and that the belt was jumping one groove and shredding up. So best bet would be tensioner and wouldn't hurt to do the idle pulley while you're at it. Hope that helps
