BAD IDM or something else?

Just bought a 99 superduty 7.3 auto with 240k on it, Got it for a steal but I bought it running pretty rough, but was able to drive it home, (Codes said idm and SES light is on) it fells like it its running on 6 cylinders, when idles and driving rpm, but if i lay into it it starts to stop surging at high rpms, not sure what it is.(IDM, valve cover gaskets, Injectors or even something else) I had a obs 7.3 that i kept throwing money at and buying wasted parts i didnt need when i had problems, and i eventually went broke and sold it. Any suggestions on what it could be greatly appriciated

What code do you get? Is it P1316 (if so, you need to delve in further and do a Buzz Test)...

Could be Many things, let the system help you out!
