Noise on Shutdown
I've noticed over the past couple months, my e99 has starting making an odd noise when I shut it down. It's somewhat hard to describe but sounds like something hitting something else during the last few revolutions. Truck runs great, so I'm thinking it might be a tranny/clutch issue? Tranny has it's quirks, was rode hard and put away wet before I got it. I'll try and get a video of it tomorrow.

Bad motor mounts? Does it sound like something that happens as the engine shakes to a stop when you turn it off?

My bet is the dual mass flywheel.

Idk Jeff. What would cause the flywheel to make that noise?
Anyone else have any ideas? Buddy of mine at work thought it sounded almost like the truck was turning off the fuel at the wrong time - like it was almost trying to fire again. I reckon to some degree it does sound similiar when I (not on purpose) lug it down real bad. |

The dual mass flywheel is worn out and its banging as it slowes to a stop out of synch so to speak.
With the truck in gear crawl underneath and remove the inspection cover and i bet you can turn the flywheel a little bit. |
