2000 7.3L F250 dies at idle
Trying to help my dad diagnose his truck. 2000 F250 crew cab 4x4 7.3. About 142k miles. Has had a performance chip since he's owned it, sorry, don't know it's brand or anything.
It's dying at idle. Starts it and it runs for a minute and just flat dies. No sputtering, just stops. No service lights, no error codes. It starts right back up and drives fine. But it has quit on him at idle 3 times now. Any ideas to check? Thanks! |

Well, take the chip off first. Always test things with that off to rule it out.
It could be, CPS, UVCHs, fuel pressure, high pressure oil issue. |

Could it be the throttle switch on the throttle pedal? Or possibly the tps.

Well, it got worse - to the point it won't run well enough to drive. So he took it to a diesel mechanic.
I don't think he knows how to take the chip out, it was installed by a local mechanic who sent it off for programming some years ago. I didn't figure they would run if you took it out. Will they? He has had so much trouble with this brute the past year. I sure hope it gets running right again. |
