Tick sound

I have horrible ticking sound. Brand new up pipes and mortar. I hurd the ticking before i replaced mortar and up pipes. Any suggestions?

Im really hoping that this one can find some help, I just got home from Afghanistan and find my truck doing the same thing... wasnt there before I deployed... came back and it was there... No ticking at idle, doesent seem to be RPM dependant (so no valve lash) I can only hear it with the windows up, it almost seems like its comming from behind the dash in the eng. compartment?

good news is she still runs like new....

My wife drove it while i was deployed.. she says the truck ran fine and it suddenly started after she took it to Sears for battery and battery cable replacement... IDK.

Running Shell Rotella in it since new, all the PM done at or before milage,
306K miles, auto tranny.

any help on this would be greatly appriciated guys....
