Small amount of oil residue on back of oil pan
Hello folks,
I'm a total novice with the powerstroke engine, diesels in general for that matter. I've owned mine for about nine months. I initially had a small leak in the fuel bowl valve, that was a broken o-ring...I fixed that. Next I found a small leak at the top of the oil dip stick tube, again a small o-ring and I fixed that. The engine valley is clean and dry, there are no visible signs of leakage anywhere that I can find, even using a flashlight and mirror and examining the turbo and all associated hardware BUT I still get a very small amount of oil or oil vapor or melting engine grease or something which shows up at the rear of the oil pan, just between the flywheel cover and the pan itself. The pan bolts are tight and no leaks appear around it, there's no problem with the big honking nut of the side of the pan, that's dry. I removed the flywheel cover and cleaned in there as well as cleaning everything else up very well. After a couple thousand miles or so I see a wee bit of oil in the same spot, not dripping just weeping a little. I was reading about the CCV mod but it seems that is associated with leaks which manifest themselves up front first and then drain down the valley and into the back of the engine, I'm not seeing any of those symptoms. Perhaps I'm just being too anal about this but I hate not knowing where this is coming from. Maybe its normal? Maybe someone has seen this before and might know where its coming from or where I might look next? I've got a long trip coming up and thought I'd ask and see if you all had any ideas?
Thanks and regards
