After weeks of reading posts and troubleshooting. Im stumped. My 2001 7.3 Diesel crew cab is dead. It all started when it would rain it would die sporadically when i would be idling or slowing down. when going down highway it seemed to die and start right back up on its own and jerk real hard as long as i was in the pedal. Also die when parked idling in the rain. I changer CPS, nothing changed. problem started to get worse and happened more and more. now sometimes I would try to start and it would crank and crank and i would have to push pedal for it to start. a few days later driving to post for PT in the rain it died and wouldn't start again. No smoke from exhaust when cranking. just crank and crank. I changed the CPS again, and the IDM as it seemed to have water damage and the plug had moisture when i removed it. still wont start. I don't want to keep dumping money into it until I know where to look next.
please help, I deploy in september and I need this thing on the road ASAP. respectfully, Matthew Haynes |

Does it do any other random stuff before it dies like render your power windows inoperative.
Check and make sure the wiper cowl is free and clear of any debris. I have a feeling its leaking onto the GEM |

Mine did the same thing when I ran through a puddle. An hour later it started right up. It did it again when I ran it through a car wash too.
I quit washing it and running it through puddles, and havent had the problem since. |

Hey Dave, cowl is free of debris. And I have never had any other issues before it dies. If its not raining its fine, when it rains it dies. And now it died for its last time, wont start. I wonder if Water is leaking down onto the PCM harness somehow and overtime it just got worse until it stopped working?

might check for water under your dash behind the fuse box and were your PCM is. When i had problems with my GEM I read a LOT of threads about the seal on the windshield going bad and water leaking down your A-Pillar. might have cooked your PCM
