Hard start this morning, died on the way to work, no start
hey guys, so like the title says, my truck had an unusually hard start this morning with a good size puff of white smoke. It drove fine for 10 miles then just quit while i was driving uphill. tried to crank it back to life but nothing. had it towed home and it cooled off still nothing, doesnt even want to sputter.
its got fuel to the fuel bowl, two month old batteries, oil change about 1k ago. i borrowed a scan gauge II in an attempt to read the ICP and ICR but couldnt get it to read for some reason, anyone have any insight on getting the scan gauge to read?? The tach moves while cranking so the CPS should be fine. I put a new ICP sensor in it about 2 months ago, tried unplugging it, still wouldnt start. I was going to rebuild the ICR if i can get a rebuild kit locally and see if that helps. where else should I start looking? I really gotta get this thing running again. |

forgot to add that it never threw a SES light, and the scan gauge didnt pick up any codes

Do you get a WTS light when you first roll-on the key? (maybe the computer isn't running...)

Yes the wts light comes on for the normal time. As well as all the other lights on the dash for the second or two. Checked fuse 30 again last night and it's good

Anyone else have any ideas? I really need to get this thing going again. I can drive my focus but if it snows or gets icy at all I'm totally screwed.

Ok well I cleaned and put new o rings in the IPR, checked the under valve cover harness and it's good. I pulled my chip, no difference. I
Have a new cps to put in when I can. What's the likelyhood it's the ECU/IDM or the HPOP?? I really can't afford to just throw money at the thing. I think my dad and I are going to split the cost of a ford autoenginuity setup. But I still have to see about that. |

alright so i got the autoenginuity all setup, pulled the codes had two for injector control pressure low both cranking and running
one for the CPS fault(still havent replaced it) I cleared the codes started the data logging and started cranking it over, at first the ICP was reading nothing, it would jump to 20-50 psi occasionally, the IPR was at 100% duty cycle(i think 14% is normal cranking) then the ICP starting climbing up rapidly and it slowly fired up. ICP was hanging around just under 700 psi at idle, IPR duty cycle just under 14% i got home turned it off, went to start it an hour later(still warm) and i had to crank it for a while and it slowly fired up again. while driving on my hottest tune at WOT it was still below 2800psi. Im thinking the HPOP is bad. whats your opinion? |

I think I might be in the same boat...our F450 failed to start after a slew of problems popped up recently..I replaced the CPS and now it will slowly fire up but after a VERRRY hard start...here is a video, is yours anything like this??
