Electrical/start problem

Hello Everyone,
This morning when I went to start the truck the WTS light and all other dash warning lights(op/low fuel ect.) did not come on.
The truck started fine(was plugged in) but no gauges where working either...just had it towed and mechanic called and said that they can't get it to do it again...wow..what a surprise!
What can cause this and where do I start looking?
Thanks,
Pete
truck is a 2000 psd /bone stock with 265,000 on it.
