my 02 7.3 starts idles for 5 sec. then dies when i go to re-start it i wont start...if i cycle the key on and off it will re-start idle for 5 sec. and die again...i replaced the fuel filter , cps any ideas???

When you replaced your fuel filter was it full of fuel?Do you hear your fuel pump come on?Turn the key on and check and see if its running on the drivers side frame rail about midway back.

yes it was full of fuel and the pump is running ..123,000 miles no smoke was running good , but then it started running rough i could shut it off and re-start it and would run good for awhile then start running rough so i went and changed fuel filter and and cleaned out the EBP sensor tube ..it was plugged and changed the cps..thats when it started this new problem of starting up running smooth for 5 sec. and then just dies

i just scanned it and pulled these codes...p0472,p0113,p1617,p603,1316...

Did it start doing this before or after the cps?
At first i thought you changed it in an attempt to fix but now sounds like it could have been the cause. How much fuel is in the truck? I know it is a dumb question but i also know mine will start acting up at 1/8th tank. Others have said at 1/4 tank. Might also have some junk getting sucked up and cover the pick up in the tank. |

it was starting and then die before cps , theres a 1/2tank of fuel ok let me start over...when this all started btw its a 2001 E350 chassie cab ...iwas driving down the interstate and got off on my exit and when i stopped at the light it started running rough..i shut it off and re-started it and started fine...drove another mile to work and when i got to work it started running rough again ..so i changed the fuel filter ..went for a test drive about 3 miles later it started running rough ..i got it back to work and cleaned the ebp sensor tube because it was plugged shut and at the same time i checked to make shure i had fuel at the filter and it did ...thats when it started with the starting up and running for 5 sec then it would start to miss and then die ..so i went and changed the cps , now it starts and runs for 5 sec and dies like you shut off the ignition and now you know the whole story...lol...pumps is running i have fuel in the filter

With the p1316 code you might want to see if you can get your hands on an idm and try that.
It seems computer related but i hate ro have ya start throwing parts at it to try and fix. Kinda goes against what i like to do. I dont know how to prove the idm out without just trying a know good one though. hopefully someone else with more exp can get in here! Lol |

yea i was thinking idm but i didnt want to go there untill i was a little more positive about it being the problem ...i might have another idm that works but i need to make sure it the right one first
