U could crawl around the engine with a stethoscope or a metal pry bar or punch and try to pinpoint the sound. harbor freight tools has a cool stethoscope with a rod attached that might b helpful I'm gonna get one today and c how it works. I've got the same problem but mines got loud enough to just park it. Shur don't want to put a window in the block. But also the 7.3 is pretty loud, could b just hearing the injectors firing.
