Bad Starter Relay?

I have a no starter issue that I am working on. Running optima red top batteries and they check good. I go to start the truck and it turns over a couple of times and then its like the batterys die. I checked voltage across the starter relay and have 12v across all the post with the key in the off position. I was thinking that it my have a short causing it to kill the batteries.
