Excursion always starts great but loses power until warm.

Hello,

I have a 2002 Excursion that always starts great - hot or cold. However, when cold, it will run for approximately 2 minutes and then lose power and may stall. It is then hard to start with lots of white smoke. Once I do get it started, it will run rough for a couple of minutes but then smooth out and be fine from then on.

No codes. No SES / CE lights. Replaced the ICP a year ago.

Any suggestions? I was thinking glow plugs or glow plug control module (Exs have the California style system with GPCM rather than the glow plug relay), but why would the engine start fine at first when hot or cold?

Does it sound like its "whistling" out the tailpipe rather than just your normal idle? The Exhaust back pressure vale could be closing too far (if thats possible) or sticking in place. Just a suggestion. I can actually feel and hear when mine closes and it doesn't run so well when it does.
