Hey Guys, Is there anyone out there that can write me up a third party opinion on a CPS failure. My friendly Ford dealer bent me over and replaced the ECM because the truck kept dieing. Of coarse it didn't cure the problem and to get a charge back from my credit card co, I need a qualified person from a repair facility to agree that the stalling problem is common on the powerstroke engine and is almost always the CPS. I had my X towed to another dealer and got the CPS replaced under warranty. I have had no problems since. HELP Bill

Looks like that is your answer. Have the repairing dealer document the issue was with the CPS and present it to the original repairing dealer. If they won't acknowledge that fact they charged you for a unnessessary repair and credit you for the repair, let the Service Manager know you will be contacting Ford directly and I would dispute the charges on the card while you talk to Ford.

I didn't know at the time how popular this CPS failure was but I wasn't buying the ECM had failed. I phoned the Ford hot line for help and they told me the dealer had submitted a statement that the customer had tampered with the computer and voided the warranty. Thats illegal, by law we can do anything we want to our vehicles. On a warranty claim the dealer has to prove that your aftermarket part caused the failure. The first dealer hasn't been asked to provide a second opinion for their part but my credit card co. is asking me for a third opinion. It doesn't matter that my second opinion dealer actually repaired my truck. Between the two dealers they got me for almost a grand. I'm pissed!!! Anybody else think the CPS is common enough for a recall? and if so, How would a person get this started?
