FLYWHEEL NOISE or WHAT????
Sorry, in a rush and have not looked at all of the threads yet.
JUst bought a 1999 FORD F-250 with a 139-k miles. 7.3L Powerstroke, automatic tranny 2 wheel drive. Truck runs and drives GREAT, little to NO blow-by but it has a noise that comes and goes all the time. Sounds like tin or something. When it is making noise I can raise the rpms just a little and it goes away, same with it in gear I can idle it up to around 900rpms in gear and the noise goes. Was thinking flywheel cracked, does this sound right??? |

hopefully its not what happend to my truck! i had a 97 cummins auto trans it was doing the same thing when i droped the tranny we found out that the flywheel was hitting the back of the engine bay we tought it was just a bent fly wheel, but i put a new one in but still same problem.. later found out that one of my main bearings was shot and it was causing my crankshaft to move about a 32nd of an inch, causing my fly wheel to hit the back of my engine bay. but it would only do it in gear! hopefully ur truck doesnt have the same problem but you should have it check out! let me know if you have any other ?s
hope this helps! good luck!! |

Mine is fixed now... Ended up being the TC. Someone already installed and new flywheel trying to fix the noise. Replaced the TC with an upgraded triple disc. TC and all is great. Just taking alittle getting used to the different converter.
Next week will be 4" turbo back exhaust, air intake and either my TS chip or my Quadzilla, have not made up my mind yet. Might try both and see which I like best since they was both free. Last edited by texasstroker; 07-07-2011 at 08:15 PM. |
