Blue Smoke after Heavy Load
Hello all, used to be a member but just created a new account.
Anyways... Folks' truck '01 7.3 1 ton Crew Cab 120,000 miles which has spent most of it's life hooked up to a medium sized horse trailer. Lovely local mechanics shop recently overfilled the oil, how much I'm not sure but it made a mess on the underside. I haven't driven or been in the truck under load for quite some time, but after this over fill (which I don't know if it contributed to the problem or not) the truck seems to be ticking some??? Today is the first time their living quarters trailer has been hooked up to it in a while and I drove it about 60 miles one way. After getting there, slight oil smell and after coming to just about a stop and starting again while parking it starting blowing blue smoke. Not too bad, but definatly noticeable. Checked oil level and it looked good, made the trip back home. Thinking it loosing a little power and the regular mpg is down some. Back home while pulling the trailer around and starting stopping while backing up it was really letting out some good blue puffs. Problem is bad enough, but we're supposed to leave for a 450 mile trip come the Monday after tomorrow... Any ideas? Rings or turbo, or ?? Thanks and sorry about the length ps: Would like to add that it seems to be idle fine after I re-started it up today, possible ticking noise or different noise anyways is only heard under load. Inter-cooler piping if your looking at the engine (our right) it's left has some heavy oily residue. Didn't notice anything around the turbo. Last edited by cal74; 06-19-2011 at 04:52 PM. |
