Drive Cycle Test Question

I am replacing the IDM in my Ford F350 Super Duty truck and have been told that I need to do a Drive Cycle test after the install. I live in the Houston, Texas area and frankly the 14 steps of the Drive Cycle test will be nearly impossible with the way traffic etc. is here.

Thus comes the question - is the Drive Cycle test a must or can I simply drive it and let the computer 're-learn' as I go? What is the consequences of not running the test?
