"Hutch" mod really works!
I had know for some time that my truck was suffering from known issue of sucking air into the fuel at the pick-up. My symptoms were excessive "cackle" and a slight inconsistant skip especially at low power settings. Both of which got worse as the fuel level in the tank went down.
What I didn't realize was how bad it was. I have the Fass fuel/air/water separator on the truck which was getting some of the air out, but I now believe was getting overwhelmed.
I did the "Hutch" and "Harpoon" mods last week; not a fun job but well worth the effort. Pick-up foot slipped off as I was lifting the unit out of the tank. The bypass valve on the side of the foot had "foil" holding it open. After: Engine quieted down considerably from idle to full on. Around town mileage went up at least 2 points (haven't checked highway yet). Able to start building boost a good bit earlier. Skip is gone.
If anyone has any of the symptoms I described, I would suggest you look into doing these mods.
