Broke Injector Tip, What do I do?
Quick run down on this one. Coming down a pass in Colorado. A light knocking started, then loud knocking and alot of smoke. Limped it to the near by dealership and they said 3 injectors were bad. Waited a few days and they said one the first one they pulled was had a broken tip. It smashed the glow plug and they think the engine is ruined because they couldn't do a compression test
Took a chance and told them to replace the three bad injectors. Went to pick it up and they replaced only one to save me some money. Paid the $1700 and drove away. Same smoke and knocking(after they said the knocking went away). Got 2 miles down the road and it smoked so bad I thought some one was going to crash behind me. Towed it home and took off the valve cover. Pulled the injectors out and the glow plug they said was smashed and unremoveable I pulled out with ease. It was totally fine. Now I don't know what to believe. They said the engine it toast because the tip broke. What else would make it smoke so bad after they replaced the injector? Another injector, injector cup? |

what about the egr cooler. if you have one and it cracked it will cause your truck to smoke so bad you cant see for 500 feet.

That's what it's doin. Egr cooler. Real quick. Why would it cause this and where is it at? Thanks for the quick response.

no egr on a 7.3... Is this in the wrong forum or do you have a 7.3?

ok the egr cooler is under your intake manifold on the passenger side, the egr cooler stands for exhaust gas recirculation it takes hot exhaust gas flows it threw a cooler and back into your engine, when they crack the put coolant right into your intake, which then goes into your engine. the best way to fix it is to get a delete kit.

It's a 2000 E350 7.3. 15 pass van so it's a hoot to work on.

definatly not egr then, what color is the smoke?
