01 f250 lost a tank of fuel

i was runnin down the high way at about 65 or so, and i dropped into 4th to pass someone(in a chevy haha) and i was runnin about 3400-3500 rpm. then i shifted into 5th and right when i shifted i lost all power, and the check engine light came on, but the motor kept running. i pulled over and it was idling really rough. i shut it off and turned it back on, and it ran fine. i took off again down the road, and about 45 seconds or less later it lost power and was idling rough again. so i shut it off and turned it back on, and it ran fine again for about 45 seconds.. i did this for 9 miles until i got home. i was at a half a tank of fuel when it happened, when i got home it was empty. i had to have blown a fuel line or something. anyone know what it could be for sure? i havent scanned the code for the check engine light yet.. so idk about that.
