water in fuel?
'99 f-550 with 7.3. wasnt running right when parked 3 monthes ago. replaced icm and was fine yestarday. used it today and 'water in fuel' dash light came on. LOTS of white smoke and running real rough. problem is self explanitory, due i simply drain and refill? did it have a factory filter/ seperater for water and if so, where is it? is fuel filter junk now? i just replaced it. anything else i need to do? thanks, john

Sure there's a water separator, it's part of the filter housing which also contains the drain valve.
Located at the top of the engine, in front under a plastic, decorative, cover between the heads and right behind the fan. The black plastic top unscrews to replace the filter (if you didn't know where it was, then by All means, replace that filter ) and there's a plastic yellow lever to rotate to drain it out.That drain has a metal tube attached to it that ends against the motor behind the top of the passenger ft tire. Drain it into something to see what's coming out.... |
