fuel bowl heater vs mileage

My fuel bowl heater shorted out last fall, blowing the fuse which also controls the PCM. So I unplugged the heater replaced fuse everything is fine. I live in Michigan, been kinda cold here never replaced the heater, could not having the heater working cause bad fuel mileage in the winter

Same thing just happened to my 99 7.3 psd. Fuel mileage will be altered a little by not having a furl bowl heater but it shouldn't be that bad. When the truck is running the fuel in the bowl is heated but not all of it goes into the motor. Some if the warm fuel goes back to the tank. So yes heated fuel runs a motor alot better then cold fuel.

I ran mine from early December until mid Jan this way and had temps well below zero, i noticed it started harder but my fuel mileage didn't seem to be affected...not sure what year your truck is but on the OBS i upgraded to the SD version where its more of an element not just a wire from NAPA
