Runs for minutes at a time??

So my 00 7.3 Excursion died on me today while driving about 35 mph. I turned off the key let it sit for about 45 seconds and then restarted.... Drove for about 1 min then it died again... this repeated several times... Once it dies all I need to do is let it sit for a few minutes and then it'll start again but will only run for a couple minutes and doesnt matter if its at idle or not. I replaced the fuel filter just because I had recently filled up but it didnt do any good. Any advice is appreciated since I'm about 400 miles away from home.

Does the tach needle move up slightly when cranking? Got a spare CPS to try?

Was there fuel in the fuel bowl and did it refill after the filter change?

Fuel - pump runs? Fuel refilling filter housing? Tank below 1/4?
