starter makes unusual noises

My 03 7.3 starter makes unusual noises when cranking, the engine fires up but I have just replaced the starter and it seems to be making similar noises. The space plate between the starter and the transmisson will flex if i push up on the starter. I have tightend the mounting bolts for that spacer and it still does it. The flywheel looks fine all around. Has anyone ever had this issue? Our other 7.3 does not do this, I just bought a reman with a gear reduction and my old starter did not have th reduction.

Are the starters on the 2 7.3's the same?

If so, maybe try putting the strange sounding one on the other truck to see if it makes noise as well.

If the spacer is flexing by pushing on it then its possible the torque from starting is flexing that thing pulling it away from the flywheel.
