Starter maybe????????

Yesterday when I went to start my 2001 7.3 as I thought it was starting I let off the key. Turned it off. When I turned it back on and tryed to start it it just clicked one time. Almost like the starter is locked up. The batteries were just replaced in July. If it is not the starter what else could it be?
Thanks for any input, Dean

probably the starter unless your batteries are drained down already.

also, check out TSB 02-19-4. It has a couple starting issues on it. Hope this helps.

Update********
Today I took the cables off the batteries and cleaned them real good. Had the batteries checked and they are in top shape (was replaced in July). Tryed to start it and it does the same thing. It is like the started is locked up. One click and that is it. guess I am going to have to replace the starter or could it be somethiing else?
Thanks again for all the help.

Sounds like possible bad selinoid switch . Try lightly tapping starter
with a hammer while someone trys and starts it , may be stuck engaged .
Don't tap to hatrd as starter has permanant magnets that can come loose with to much banging

also try jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver or something and see if it works.

Curious if you found out what the problem was. My 01 just started having the same issues, but it has been 27 degrees below zero, and I would prefer to not freeze off my fingers without having an idea of where to start. Thanks
