Is there anyway to check that or does a mechanic have to do it?

did you ever find this? mine is doing the same thing out of the blue. Mine didnt run out but was ran really low. the next morning it was making a knocking sound from the drivers side, ran lucas diesel inj cleaner through and no fix, I am thinking its an injector not working and the piston moving around since there is no top load on it (basically slapping the cyl wall )

Mine was ticking like that, and when I got my FICM replaced under warranty it stopped. So maybe it is something related to a low voltage FICM??
