Turbo noise
I have a 99 F250 7.3 and it just started making a high pitched drilling sound under high boost or when revved and letting off Also sounds bad when you shut the truck down sounds like metal on metal in the turbo? What do i look for can it be fixed just had turbo off and new o rings put in felt solid no play in wheel 3 weeks ago 173K on her

Mine did the same thing about a month ago.I bought another turbo and even with the stock turbo on the shop bench ,I still cant find anything visibly wrong with it.It has to be internal.

I had the same problems - it was the inside wheel on the turbo

probably a journal bearing going out.they make rebuild kits for your turbo i believe,cheaper than a rebuilt turbo.

Mine was doing the exact same thing, I also had in and out shaft play about a half an inch. Pulled it apart and put a rebuild kit in it, fired it up and works fine but it still makes that sound under heavy boost. My turbine wheel looked fine, I know my compressor wheel has seen better days but I'm just going to go with a new turbo I don't know exactly what it is
