1999 7.3 NO POWER

My friend has a 1999 F350 7.3 DRW build date 10/98. The truck seems to run fine but has no power at all, we pulled the turbo and it looked good. We replaced the MAP sensor and it still runs the same. It does not blow any smoke at all and does not seem to be building any boost. We checked all the CAC tubes/boots and no leaks. We checked the waste gate and its not stuck. It had a low boost code, a back pressure code, and a glow plug code. Anybody have any ideas before we take it to a shop? Also he was wondering if there is a way to pull out his 4 speed auto and install a 5 speed auto. Thanks

I have to think that something has to be wrong with the waste gate. Are any of the lines cracked or clogged?

sounds like mine WAS! It was the EBP tube on the front of the motor,

Yeah if its not building boost im going to think something with the waste gate or the entire turbo itself.

How do I test these kind of things? I think I read that if you unhook the sensor for the EBP tube that would give back some power, I tried that but didnt change a thing. Would the truck smoke if the turbo/waste gate was not working properly?

how deeply did you check the turbo. Check in turbo housing to see if the blades have hit it and reemed out the housing. check the wheel and see if the blades are tore up. Wiggle the shaft in and out and up or down to see if you have any place. there should be just a little place up and down

The turbo wheel had no play at all and seemed to spin fine, how much is to tight? Blades and housing looked good.

I would check into a boost leak detector. I made one from parts at my local hardware store. They sell one on dieselsite.com also. Helped me find a leak I was chasing for a while. Now truck boosts to 26-28 with no problems. No boost=no power!
