need measurement

Can someone with a stock fuel filter cap measure the distance from the bottom of the cap where it meets the aluminum housing to the bottom of the filter when its up in the cap? I changed filters this weekend and the old one was a cap/filter combo. All of my filters i buy in bulk so i needed a new cap. Well napa had one so i bought it. Thought all was good until today i fired up the truck and pow the seal blew and completely duched my whole engine bay with fuel. I tried re tightening it 2 times and it blew just by pressurizing the bowl. I don't think the cap will screw down far enough. I think the grooves that the filter goes into aren't big enough and the filter won't pop into the cap therefore not allowing it to seat properly. I need that measurement cause i want to know how far down the filter hangs while in the cap. I ended up buying another cap/filter combo to get home.
