Turns Over - Wont Fire Up
2001 F350 7.3L
Edge 7stage Chip/programmer AFE intake Just replaced both batteries now she wont fire up, Been parked for about 3 weeks on a slight hill due to bad starter. Turns over but wont fire up, Getting white smoke out exhaust and a little under hood along with a moderate smell of diesel. Anyone got any ideas? Going to try some quik start in the intake tonight see what happens with that. Ill post results if i get any different then now. |

Went to start this morning wouldnt start. Had to use quikstart(ether)... If the truck has been started she will go but if she has been sitting for any extended period of time she will not fire up without ether. Any ideas anyone?

First idea,,,, STOP USING EITHER! before you destroy your engine
![]() The mixture of glowplugs & either is a recipe for disaster. Next, sounds like you're getting fuel, hopefully your GlowPlug system isn't working at all, have you seen this? -> Winter Operation, Hard Starting, Hissing Sound Etc... Check it out, how cold is it in Alberta now? Do you have a Check Engine Light ON? Does the tach needle move up slightly when cranking? |

I agree with NoRalPh, probably have something wrong in the glowplug system, since your engine didn't blow up using ether...

Hey guys been gone for awhile, but problem has been fixed just posting in case it helps anyone else out in the future. What had happened was two wires had melted together casuing a short/surge thru my whole system. Fried my Alternator which drained my batteries of course. Replaced the alt and batt's rewired the wires that had melted and she fired up fine. Obviously those wires had a route to the glow plugs so since the wire was damaged the glow plugs were not getting heated up. The location where the wires shorted out was just as it goes to a relay on the sidewall near the front of the passengers side. Hope this helps someone in the future.
