yeah I have already replaced the starter. This all started with my torque converter going out, which sent metal through the pump then burnt up the transmission. Had work done at Mr. Transmission in Savannah, Ga. Picked the truck up 3 days later on Friday. The following Sat. engaged the 4 wheel drive system for the first time, blammo, they did not put all the bolts in holding my front drive shaft. 1 Sheered off, found 2 in the cross member support. The drive shaft slung around and busted the electric motor that engages the transfer case and a big bundle of wiring along the frame rail. They towed it back on Monday, I picked it up on Wed. Parked the truck on Friday, Monday went to go to work, found 2 large puddles of tranny fluid. Took it back Tuesday, and picked it up again on Wednesday. Thursday morning went to leave for work, the starter locks up. Figured starter just happened to go out. That evening went to change it, the top bolt was loose and one of the long bolts that holds the starter together, the head was sheared off. Ford says you have to remove the starter, along with every other manual I can find. I try to get the shop to pay for the starter, they said that they did not remove the starter. The starter is mounted to a separator plate and once the 6 bolts that come through the bell housing through the separator plate and into the back of the engine. The only thing holding it on is two alignment pins. So if the separator plate came off the starter would hang by the wires to the starter and would swing down and hit the tie rod. But I am still fighting with them. Guess I am gonna have to get a lawyer involved. I told them that if they missed steps like removing my starter, and putting bolts back in, what did they miss inside my transmission. They had no response.
