2000 F250 7.3L Loss of power. 181K miles

10/31 - Brand new Ford tranny. Laramie, WY
9/1 - fishing around Saratoga, WY
9/2 - Hook up 36' 5th Wheel, head for home (Monument, CO)
  • Saratoga to I-70. No problems.
  • I-70 to Cheyenne, WY. No problems.
  • I-25 to Denver, CO. No problems.
  • I-25, Thornton, CO. ~3 mi stop & go. No problems.
  • I-25 to Monument, CO. No problems.
  • I-25 exit @ Monument to within 1 Mi of home (4 mi up and down rolling hills). No problems.
  • Roller Coaster Rd through Kings Deer. Lost power on first hill (not particularly steep or long).
  • Managed to get rig off road (engine running, but coasting backwards without power).
  • Lifted 5th wheel from hitch and separated.
  • Very little power, but enough to continue through Kings Deer and get home (~1 mi).
9/3 - Started, but no power
Question - Any thoughts on what the problem might be and could it be related to the new tranny?

Replaced fuel filter and CMS. Starts and runs, but still not right. Lots of power when I "hit it" but after I do that a few times the check engine light comes on (no codes), sometimes with loss of power but not always. If it quits, or I turn it off, it starts right up and runs good again after start (for a while).

oil presser problem

low oil presser will cause truck to run rough and or not want to run . clogged oil filter perhaps had a friend that had a problem like you guys are. and or check all turbo tube connections if they came off or are leaking

OK. all is well. I did something that you should never do...two substitutions at the same time... new fuel filter AND new CMP sensor. Result was that it would run great, but just die at random times but start right up again. Since the recommendation for the fuel filter came from a friend who is a super diesel mechanic, I thought I would put the old CMP back in on the off chance that even though it was new, the new one could be faulty (MANY stories on the net about this). Guess what? It's running great... been driving it for about 4 or 5 days now and not a hiccup. Lots of power. I haven't hooked it up to my 5th wheel yet but I'm sure the problem is gone.
