2001 in need of a rebuild?

2001 F350 2WD DRW 9 foot flat bed manual 126,000 miles bone stock....

Ok, I have had my truck at the dealer and now a different shop to get a second opinion. And they came back the same, need some engine work, low compression in 7=75 lbs and 8=105. So I cannot justify 10000.00 for either shop to replace. What do I need to know when rebuilding this engine; I have a workable knowledge of gassers but limited on power strokes. Where can I get a good deal on parts I need or is there a kit anyone recommends? I will say I will also rebuild the injectors, what else needs to be gone thru? I have the space the pull the front clip and that is the I will go to get the engine out. It has a new CPS, ICP MAP EBV sensor in the pedestal and a new wheel, turbine from Ron’s in Utah. I also have access to a Snap-On Modis that I can use to scan my vehicle.

What does everyone recommend?

Locate in Cache Ok. If anyone is local and would like to extend the knowledge.

I cant imagine a diesel being that different to build than a gas motor. The only thing I can suggest is finding a good machine shop and use a quality rebuild kit. I havent rebuilt a diesel but ive rebuilt everyting from a gas lawnmower motor to a big block to a 2 stroke jet ski motor.

There just like any other engine there is a good write up in may's diesel power about rebuilding the 7.3. And I know fords enigne kit is fairly reasonable and they have a 100% no hassel on cores. So there is something to think about but maily you have to figure out what you are going to use the truck for as rebuilding the engine for the quailty of parts and injectors if you wanna keep the stockers of go bigger there is so many things to think about before you get started so my only advice is have a good plan before you get started
