Engine light flashes and loss of fuel to engine!need help fast!

I have a 2001 f250 powerstroke 7.3.... Recently i will be driving down the road and the check engine light will pop up and i loose my gas pedal and the engine will just idle as if im not even pressing gas ledal.i can roll and engine light will go off and it will be fine,and it will do it sometimes two or three times in a 5 mile drive! Truck needs a new torque converter so i dont know if that has nything to do with it but i dunno,any help would be awsome guys!thanks
