7.3 DIT fuel problem

Had a customer bring in an '01 F-550 with a 7.3, said it would lose power. Test drove it, sure enough, felt like it was running out of fuel under load.

Put a test gauge on the fuel filter housing. Started it up, had 45 psi pressure.



Stuck the hose and gauge out of the backside of the hood and shut the hood so I could view gauge while driving.



Hit the pavement, Holy Crap! Didn't even rev out second gear going downhill and pressure dropped to zeeeeero!



Started running crappy, managed to limp back to yard, stopped at bottom gate and waited, it recovered pressure in a few minutes.



Could be pump, but doubt it. Sure sign there's a fuel supply restriction...in the tank. Get the pickup assy out of tank, there's where the
problem is going to be.

Took the cartridge apart, sure enough, the twin stainers were clogged tighter than a Kentucky coal country motel shower drain.



Here's one strainer cleaned out and its twin brother looking all unhappy. Cleaned out the fuel tank, sorted out the pick up, she
purrs like a kitten again.

mine has codes in it 1316 somehing a bout circuit injector thing
