big puddle of oil. 2001 7.3
I was driving back from a 70 mile trip. No signs of any problems. Droped off a friend at a bar had a beer went back to my truck to find a huge puddle of oil under my truck, also the whole undercarriage was coated in oil. At quick glance it seems like the oil is coming out of the vent hole at the bottom of the bell housing. What is the most common problem when a 7.3 diesel decides to dump lots of its oil? I did check the dip stick and the oil did not registar on the stick. I had no lights come on no check engine light and no notice of it running any difference. Your thoughts?

my moneys on hpop. I had the same thing on my 99, it looks like its draining from the bell housing, and gets all over the whole undercarriage, but its most likely leaking from the hpop fillin up in the valley and draining down the back of the block, pop your hood and check there
