Good evening, my 2000 F250 7.3 seems to stall and have trouble restarting when it is warm especially. This all seemed to start after I changed the fuel filter, of course I put another fuel filter in. The problem still exists. When the engine is close to stalling the check engine light comes on, upon restart the check engine light clears. This has been a strong running and dependable truck until this. Also no engine mods. Help

pull the codes out of the PCM.....even if the check engine light is off....the fact that it was on means there is a code stored.....if you pull a P0340 or a P0344 change the cam sensor....if not....get back to us with what codes you pulled........Marc

good lord what a fast reply, i'm going to put it in the local non dealer diesel shop on tues, saw another note from someone who spoke of a cam sensor, any thoughts

sounds to me like a cut and dry, perfect example of a cam sensor failure.....if it was my truck i would purchase one and put it on and try it....cause you should always carry an extra one in the glove box so you dont get stranded because of it.....and if its not the problem this time.....you will have the spare you should carry anyways. if you get back in the middle of nowere and it stalls and wont restart (sometimes they will, sometimes the will after it sits a while...and sometimes they just wont start)....this is the first thing you should try. i can not tell you that this is the problem for sure without the code....but i am a ford master tech (dealer employed) and if this truck was to come to me this would be the first thing i would think and 9 times out of ten i would be right.....if you decide to try one and see if it works.....look below for install instructions........Marc

you can get it at an international dealer also...and they are cheaper........also you can get them off of ebay pretty reasonably........Marc

I just put a cam sensor in mine, it cost 159.00, so I bought 2, it took 5 minutes to install. No problem.

The cam sensor fix worked, several hundred miles later and no sign of the previous trouble. I bought two and am going to hang onto the extra one. thanks a whole bunch, les
