2001 7.3 Powerstroke Turbo Noise

My best guess would be bent turbo vanes. i am not sure.

What would cause that?

it could be from many things. What kind of truck do you have? any mods?

I have a F 250 SD crew cab 4x4 with a super chip programmer set in tow mode. Cold air intake and 4" exhaust with turbo down tube.

it might be "dusted" if it has a K&N intake, it is a pretty common thing to happen. It might also be a bent turbo vane. Not hard to replace.

are you sure its the turbo making this noise? while under a load the amount of exhaust gas increases flowing through the turbo but i dont see that making a grinding noise in any way.i would bet that the exhaust sytem is making contact with the engine or tranny somewhere while under a load from the torque of the engine actually twisting the whole engine a tad bit and possibly enough to hit the down pipe . so check all your clearances and let us know

I just picked up a '00 F350, and it's doing the same thing. Under load, I hear a grinding/wooshing sound. At least that's the best way I can describe it. It doesn't last too long, and if I either accelerate more or less it will go away. It does have a K&N filter on it-I already ordered an AIS to replace it. I kept my totaled Early '99 F250 for salvage-will the vanes off of my old turbo (which I think is a wicked wheel from the factory) fit on my new one? Is that most likely the noise I'm hearing?

I tried to get my truck to make the noise again and cant hear anything. I think the noise may just be the waste gate operating. BM
