6.0 Intercooler in a 01 7.3
Hello all,
Love the .org!! I have found out a wealth of information about my engine that I never knew. I have been reading posts on here and I have noticed some people have (or want to) change to a 6.0 intercooler for a 7.3 engine. I was wondering what benefit this gives the 7.3. I have a 2001 F 250 Super Duty Crew Cab 4X4 182K miles, engine is stock but I use a Hypertech programmer when pulling my trailers. Added Banks pyro, boost and trans temp guages, and AMSOIL bypass filter system and use AMSOIL synthetic diesel oil. |

The allegation is that the intercooler is bigger and more efficient, so it should cool the incoming air better. Cooler air is denser and so it should increase your boost. I personally don't think the gain could possibly be worth the cost. You'd probably get a better bang for your buck changing your air filter assembly to the Ford heavy duty system if you are trying to increase flow.

its not so much an "upgrade" rather than just a swap... the only thing that can justify the swap is:
A) you pick up a 6.0 cooler dirt cheap and just get bored one weekend. B) your stock intercooler has the plastic end tanks and you feel as though you may burst them so you replace it with the 6.0 cooler you got CHEAP. |
