runs then dies, runs then dies

It first started on monday morning my wife was driving the 02 7.3 to school a mile into the drive it just shut off. I was at work so just talked her through it. It was low on fuel so that was my first guess. She had a friend bring her fuel it fired up and worked fine the rest of the week. The only thing that sounded fishy was the battery light would flicker/blink. Today i was driving it and picked her up it did the same thing it just died, had plenty of fuel. I fired it back up and it just died again the battery light blinked once again. tried a few more times then it fired up and drove it home no problems. My alt is a year and a half old and the batts are the same. What gives?? any help would be appreciated....

I'm not sure the battery light flickering is diagnostic, or just a result of the underlying problem. For example, if you turned your key off and back on, you would see your battery light flicker because you interupted the current to the alternator field wire. That could be a clue, though - you may have an intermittant short in the ignition switch, or an intermittant connection problem with the PCM or GEM. That leaves a lot of searching. Because it is the more common of the problems, I think I would start with the wiring harness in the steering column, as it is prone to wearing through and could be causing the intermittant problem.
