Compression loss and smoke?

Helped a friend replace an engine a while back in his 00 350. His old engine had reman injectors so I swapped those into the used engine and put it in. Everything was fine for about 8000 miles and then the engine developed a slight miss and smokes like it is cold(even when warm) at idle. Cylinder contribution test narrowed it down to #2,did a compression test and have only 200 psi on that cylinder. My question is, is it possible that something with the injector can cause loss of compression? Anything else I should check before I say this engine is junk?
