Wastegate.

Got a question about the wastegate on my work truck, it seems like it's stuck open. Are they supposed to move somewhat freely?

ive honestly never tried to move one by had......but if your trying to move it with the actuator on....it may be kinda difficult since that diaphram has to be sturdy enough not to blow out under higher boosts.....but i would suspect it would be relatively easy to move with the actuator disconnected........Marc

Guess I'll just have to pull the doghouse and watch it. I'm wondering if that could have something to do with the smoke... Thanks Marc.

Pull the vacuum line off and use your air compressor to move the actuator. You can also disconnect the actuator rod and the valve should move easily.

wastegate only opens on an overboost situation.you can actuate it by hand but there will be considerable resistance.it will not actuate under a low or moderate load.if it does open under an overboost it would be just a slight movement and you might not even notice it visually ...good luck...arnie b
