Problem with start
Ok,
I need some help again. This morning my 01' started up without a problem, let it warm up, and drove two blocks to fuel up. Once done My truck wouldn't start at that point. It cranked a few times but mainly just the loud click. I checked my posts and cleaned them, seeing how I just put a charge on the batteries two weeks ago I didn't figure that is was a dead battery. Still no start. I put the truck in neutral and back into park when my guages then jumped up like normal. When I tried to start again all I had was the clicking noise again. When I now turn the key my guages and power clicks on and off. Is this the starter, ignition, or battery? Or is this something more serious? |

Check the battery voltage while cranking. It should be > 10.5v.
The voltage @ 2000RPM should be 14.5v. If cranking voltage is below the min. Have the batteries load tested. If one is bad, replace both of them at the same time. A weak battery will bring a new one down to its level and cause it to fail prematurely. If 2000RPM voltage is below 14.1, your alt could be going out or gone. A good charging system should never need to be charged with an external charger and with one, indicates a battery/alt problem. |
